As the 2023 flat season approaches the two-year-olds are now being named. Naming the horse is one of the perks of owning a young thoroughbred and a lot of thought goes in at this stage as owners look forward to seeing their pride and joy take to the track. A strapping son of Cracksman, flashy two-year-old Spirit Of Acklam was the first of this year's cohort to gain a name. He is a half-brother to winners from around the world! Half-sister Santa Monica won four Graded races in the USA, and half-brother Grand Promenade's wins include the Grade 2 Lexus Bart Cummings Handicap at Flemington Park, Australia. Half-sister Oriental Girl is a four times winner closer to home, having won three times at Bath and once at Chepstow. |

Mr and Mrs Tinning have named their juvenile for 2023. The daughter of Time Test is now called Catton Lady. She is named after a village to the east of York and is from a winning family. Catton Lady is a half-sister to four times winner Symposium and also to black-type filly Cosmic Love, who was a Chepstow winner in 2018 before heading for the USA where she was placed in the Lorgnette Stakes at Woodbine. |
Also named is Zous Juice, a two-year-old gelding by Zoustar owned by Mr Howard Jones. His dam Elusive Horizon won eight races in the USA, including the Washington Oaks at Emerald Downs. She is the dam of six winners in the USA. We hope he does indeed have plenty of 'juice' when he gets to the racecourse! |
