Sondad steps up in class to record Listed win at Redcar

Sondad has gone from strength to strength in 2026 and this afternoon he stepped up into Listed company to take the Guisborough Stakes at Redcar.

A winner at Epsom, York and The Curragh this season, Sondad is the pride and joy of owner Gary Routledge who follows him every time he runs and today the son of Washington DC recorded a career best.

The biggest earner in the yard, Sondad added £34,000 in prizemoney to take his total this season to over £176,000.

Rated 108, Sondad had three pounds to find with 111-rated Witness Stand but he is in fine form and turned the tables on William Haggas's horse who finished a neck behind in second spot.

The victory gave jockey Joanna Mason her 50th winner of the season.

"What a horse and what a day," said Joanna after the race. "Sondad is brilliant, I just love him."
