In 2024 we retired a horse by the name of Cassanos Lad, known to us as Elvis. He'd raced 10 times but didn't have the speed to be a winner and after finishing eighth of eleven runners at Redcar in July his owners decided it was time to find him a new career. He was rehomed to Poppy Allen who offered a home for life, but little did we know how much of a promise that would turn out to be.
In autumn 2025 Poppy relocated to Canada to begin a new life and, true to her word, her plans also included taking Elvis with her. We think this is the furthest that any of our rehomes have ventured from Sheriff Hutton and it's certainly one of the best stories!!
"It is quite a crazy story isn’t it?" says Poppy. "He didn't make it in racing, so he had to become an international jet setter."
"He got filthy travelling and there was a little weight loss from the boat and plane ride! He's had a couple of bite marks from trying to integrate with his new friends but he's adapting well."
We think its an astonishing tale of dedication and devotion and we thank Poppy for taking such great care of Elvis.
