Gold Shoveler was a homebred son of sprinter Workboy. He ade his debut on the flat at Haydock in August 1977. He had a spell with trainer K Stone in 1982 and 1983 and returned to the yard to record two wins. It was six years into his career before he actually won a race when he won the 'Dunblane Novices Chase' at Perth and later in 1983 the 'Selbourne Engineering Handicap Chase' at Hexham. Gold Shoveler ran his last race at Catterick on 10th November 1984.
