Spud King made his first appearance at Thirsk in June 1979. Later that month he won the 'Holderness 2yo Stakes' at Beverley ridden by Terry Lucas. He raced just four times, his last race being unplaced at Redcar in August 1979 where he was the 7/4 favourite.
