Joanna Mason rode another winner this evening as seven-year-old Shimmering Sands recorded his first victory since 2023. Returning from a 194 day break, the son of Teofilo took the ten furlong Bill Carrigill Memorial Handicap in the colours of trainer Mick Easterby to take jockey Joanna Mason to within two of Terry Lucas's stable record of 131 winners.

Shimmering Sands was given a fine ride, going second inside final furlong, and then challenging inside final hundred yards to stay on and hit the front in the final strides.

Joining us from Tattersalls October Yearling Sale back in 2020 Shimmering Sands originally carried the colours of Imperial Racing. In 2022 he recorded wins at Beverley and Leicester and in 2023 scored at Doncaster. The 2024 and 2025 seasons saw four placed runs, but it was three years and five days since he last tasted success.
"My god he made me work," said rider Joanna Mason after the race. "He was keen and think he needs a crossed noseband next time."

"That was a proper training performance after six months off the track," said co-trainer David Easterby who was delighted to see his father Mick's colours carried to success.
