A half-brother to prolific winner Where's Jeff, Sugarloaf Lad didn't have his sibling's pace and was retired from racing after a handful of runs. Rehomed to live with Rachel in southern England, he is now thriving in his new life after racing.
Rachel messaged today to give us the latest news on her pride and joy, who is now known as 'Dave'.
"Dave joined us from Mick and David in the summer as a two-year-old old after racing three times on the flat. He's had six months off and wintered out with his pony buddies (so he doesn't have the sleek look of the other thoroughbreds on here) and now is gently being brought back into work aa a three-year-old."
"He will go on his first hack on Saturday with his Shetland friend as his nanny. He is handled by children daily, is very inquisitive and lets us cuddle him when lying down in the field.
We hope to low level event him once matured."
"Fun fact - his Shetland friend tried Shetland pony racing and we were told he won't make a racing Shetland. So we have two failed racers!"
