Big Love was a comfortable winner at Kelso this afternoon as he took the first division of the Scottish Racing Academy Handicap Hurdle under Jamie Hamilton. After making headway three out, he was pushed along and went second when not fluent at the second last out and led at the last hurdle before being pushed clear inside final half furlong. Returned at odds of 11/8 he passed the post five lengths in front of the 102-rated Parisian Fashion.
Big Love is the first winner to be bred by co-owner John Blackburn, who has sent out many winning racehorses in his red and beige colours in recent years. Foaled at Norton Grove Stud in 2022, Big Love has lived all of his life here. He is the first winner of broodmare Apalis, who we sadly lost to cancer last year, and also the yard's first winner by Postponed.
The yard made a clean sweep of the honours for the contest as groom Katie Midgley picked up the Best Turned Out prize.
