Albert's Back, a five-time winner over hurdles, recorded his first Point-to-Point victory when he took the opening race at Sheriff Hutton this afternoon.
Trained by Steph Easterby, and carrying the colours of Mick Easterby, the twelve-year-old won on home turf at the Middleton Point-to-Point under Thomas Easterby.
Albert's Back has been at Sheriff Hutton for eleven years, arriving from Tattersalls October Yearling Sale back in 2015 where he was purchased for 6,500 guineas.
A son of three-time Grade 1 winner Champs Elysees, Albert's Back's career under rules included four wins over hurdles at Wetherby and one win at Haydock. He was also placed over fences at Leicester in 2020. Retired in 2024 at the age of ten 'Albert' enjoyed some time off before starting his Point-to-Point career at the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity Point-to-Point in January.
Albert was pulled up in two of his first three starts between the flags but ran out an easy winner this afternoon to the delight of the yard staff, his trainer Steph Easterby and of course owner Mick Easterby who had celebrated his 95th birthday earlier this week.
