Knicks was first home in the 'tote.co.uk Saddle-Up For More Than Racing Handicap' over five furlongs this afternoon after an enterprising ride from Joanna Mason. The pair were out of the gates at lightning speed and managed to get to the rail from stall six andd at the front throughout the 11/1 shot held on close to home to deny Vince L'Amour by a neck to take the Class 3 contest.
Knicks was purchased from the sales last autumn having previously won at Nottingham for Karl Burke. He had run a fine race when runner up at Catterick on his stable debut last month and came on leaps and bounds and was spot on for his race at Chester. The form of his last race had worked out well, with fourth placed Princess Alex winning twice in a week after finishing four lengths behind Knicks.
"It's a very nice win with good prizemoney and the owners are here today", said David Easterby after the race. "All except Lee Westwood who's out hitting golf balls somewhere or other."
"We might now aim him at the three-year-old Dash at Epsom. He's just the right sort of horse for the race and he love the fast five furlongs".
